2018 Fellowship Winners

TAHMENA HUSSAIN graduated from The City College of New York, with a B.A. in English Creative Writing. She has been on the Dean’s List, 2016, and her attention to detail in her writing earned her The David Markowitz Essay Award, 2017. Shortly after graduation, Tahmena interned at Penguin Random House with Penguin Young Readers Group in the publicity department writing pitch letters, researching bloggers and media outlets, and drafting itineraries for author tours. Her internship was a very rewarding experience which gave her insight into the realities of the publishing industry, and it has increased her interest in pursuing a professional career in publishing. As a first-generation Muslim-Bengali-American female, and the only member of her family to graduate from a four-year college, Tahmena is grateful and honored to be a fellow recipient of the Women’s Media Group. She is looking forward to exploring new opportunities and to building connections with various women of such an esteemed organization.

AURORA SORIANO is an English Literature major and Theatre minor at the City College of New York, where she is also enrolled in the Publishing Certificate Program. She is an English Honors student, and loves reading both contemporary YA novels and classic literature. Aurora is the current feature editor and a staff writer for CCNY’s magazine The Campus, and is looking ​​forward to working more on editorial skills at her internship with the Children’s Department of McIntosh & Otis this summer.



2017 Fellowship Winners


Ashley Grant-Hewitt, born and raised in New York by Jamaican parentage is a recent graduate from The City College of New York. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree in the area of Chemistry with a Publishing Certificate and Cum Laude Latin honors. Ashley has experience in leadership as a recitation leader, supervising assistant, and treasurer for the Baskerville Chemical Society. She has taught general and organic chemistry recitations, including conducting her own lesson plans since 2014. She was also in charge of developing CCNY's scheduling department's website and keeping it updated for the 17,000+ students and faculty that attend the school. Ashley currently resides in Bronx, New York and will be interning at Norton this summer. 

Mumtahinah Ahmed was born and raised in Queens, New York.  She is majoring in Communications with a minor in English at the City College of New York where she is also enrolled in the Publishing Certificate Program. Mumtahinah enjoys reading contemporary novels and has a strong passion for writing. In addition, she has a bookstagram named Foodiebooknerd where books can be models too! Mumtahinah will be an intern at Penguin Random House this summer.
